UpdateHave you talked data lately? More than 600 data management professionals came together in Tampa, Florida to learn, teach, and share about all facets of our practice. Individual sessions spilled over into hallway networking.Dinner discussions converged on topics, giving voice to a myriad of perspectives, each enriching the next conversation. Some of these conversations have continued beyond Enterprise Data World (EDW)into the LinkedIn DAMA Group. Consider the value of joining the conversation virtually, even if you were unable to travel thisyear. Four colleagues were honored by DAMA at the conference for their contributions. The winners of the 2009 DAMA International Achievement Awards are: Academic – Eva Smith Professional – Jaylene McCandlish Government – Glenn Thomas Community – Mark Mosley Thanks to all who nominated one or more candidates and thanks to all chapters that voted. The DAMA Foundation announced that they have been approved for a 501c3 charitable status by the US IRS, effective data November 21, 2008. The biggest buzz at EDW was the introduction of The DAMA Data Management Body of Knowledge, a reference to provide us the written documentation for what we doin the functional areas of our practice. Approximately 100 copies of the DAMA-DMBOK were sold, as well as a few enterprise licenses. Since then it has been moving quickly at Amazon, if you see thatit is “sold out” check back...we restock quickly. The forward by John Zachman includes the following quote: The DAMA-DMBOK Guide deserves a place on every data management professional’s bookshelf; and for the general manager, it will serve as a guide for setting expectations and assigning responsibilities for managing and practicing what has become the very most critical resource owned by an enterprise as it (the enterprise) progresses into the Information Age: DATA!
